This week my dragon fruit flowers bloomed. Each flower is Gi-normous, as you can see by the pictures. The dragon fruit’s flower only bloom at night, but I was able to catch some good images of it at late dusk.
Dragon fruit, hylocereus undatus, pitahaya, pitaya, strawberry pear, thanh long is a vining, terrestrial or epiphytic cactus, with fleshy stems that climb up any vertical surface. It grows very fast here in Houston. It is a hardy plant and can withstand Houston occasional freeze.
Hopefully, from these wonder flowers, I will get some dragon fruits in late summer. If you guy are curious about how good it taste, you can stop by any Asian supermarkets and pick some up. I think it averages around $2.99 – $3.99 per pound. You can’t miss it, just look for the pinkish magenta fruit.
